A new line of high-end Spanish food products from José Andrés launches today. José Andrés Foods collects some of Andrés’ favorite jarred, canned, bottled, bagged, and boxed foodstuffs from his home country and brings them to the American retail market.

Each of the products in the line, which is owned by Think Food Group, was selected by Andrés himself. They run the gamut of the Spanish culinary larder, from arbequina olive oils and sweet sherry vinegars to canned tuna belly and plump little tinned sardines. Other products include crunchy olive oil and pink salt potato chips, rustic Catalan toasts, and mini torpedo-shaped picos camperos (breadsticks).

Several of the foods can be combined to create a la minute snacks. For example, Andrés suggests topping the potato chips with fleshy mussels in escabeche (a classic, piquant sauce of oil, vinegar, paprika, and clove) or crowning Catalan toasts with a puree of his jarred pisto (a blend of tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini) and a chunk of Cantabrian tuna belly. Other foods, like spicy Gordal olives and ropy, spindling razor clams, worked just fine on their own when I tasted of them at a media preview in New York last night.

José Andrés Foods will  be available for mail order at JoseAndresFoods.com starting at noon today. The products will hit select retail shelves in Washington and other markets later this summer.
